Paphos Classic Vehicle Club June 2023

We present the Chairman`s Classic Cresta this month, that is the 1966 Vauxhall Cresta PC Deluxe owned by the chairman of PCVC , Steve Wilkinson and his wife Marilyn.

The car was originally imported into Cyprus in 1968 but has been off the road for some time and had not moved for over 9 years! Steve and Marilyn bravely bought the car last year in Nicosia as a restoration project, as he had owned a similar Vauxhall back in the 1970s. These cars were notorious for their lack of rust proofing, although, this example is relatively rust free, no doubt due to its long life in the dry climate of Cyprus. However, in light of its recent lack of use, the car did require a good deal of mechanical fettling, but, with the help of Club members Steve now has the car cruising smoothly around Paphos.

The Vauxhall Cresta is powered by a 3.3 litre straight 6 cylinder petrol engine which produces a torquey 125 bhp through a 3 speed gearbox. There is also the iconic front bench seating and column gear lever, and, a period car radio/cassette player which is in working order. The car has a wonderful patina and still wears its original powder blue paint, although it is a little bit more powdery than when it left the factory in the UK!

Come and inspect the Cresta and other classic vehicles at PCVCs shows and meetings, full details of which can be found on our Facebook page, or, our website (www.paphosclassicvehicleclub.com), or, telephone 97760997.
