It’s a funny old thing…actually no it’s a funny reasonably new thing! Social Media.
Elon Musk spends 55 billion dollars to purchase Twitter… but what is Twitter?
A selection of comments from people we don’t really know about – things that we’re not really interested in…but we believe we should be, because everyone else is…
We might live in a time where fame can be immediate, but usually quite short lived. Seeking fame as a blogger or vlogger, a social influencer or “Tik Tokker” or “You tuber” is something that we can all aim for and is perfectly achievable and lucrative!
Everybody is interested in what you have to say…especially if you’re aesthetically pleasing or are willing to be more daring and adventurous than anyone else! Everyone is under such pressure…is that good for us? The world, as a whole, is probably suffering more mental fatigue than ever before with a constant pressure to be “more”, do “more”, buy “more”, succeed “more”.
Just imagine a world where if you wanted to hear a selection of songs by your favourite band or artist, you would have to go to a record shop, or having to find a partner you might have to put yourself out and socialize in person! TV wasn’t always broadcasting and if you missed your favourite show, you would have to wait until next week to catch it!
In the search for knowledge, the encyclopedia salesman would be your best friend and he’d be very grateful as he sweated his way from door to door and if you were looking for knowledge you might relieve him of 3 tons of hardback books…even if you wanted to pay monthly! Or just head to the library for the economy option…shush.
It sounds like another world, but only a few years ago this was our reality! Were we happier and physically fitter? Perhaps we appreciated things a little more, as less is more!
I’m not a particularly nostalgic person, however I am very pleased to be working in radio… a medium where you still need to use your imagination to really enjoy what’s going. A theatre of the mind is all yours to visit anytime…just tune in and don’t forget your imagination!
