News from St Barnabas’ Anglican Church, Limassol and St Lazarus’ Church, Pissouri, September 2023

Since 1989, the ‘Season of Creation’, ‘Creation Time’, or ‘Creationtide’ has grown to be a lively global and ecumenical movement in Christian churches, dedicating the Sundays of September and the first in October (closest to St Francis’ Day, 4th October) to worship, prayer, reflection and action on the Commission of the Risen Christ, to bring Good News to All Creation. (Mark 16:15). It’s a chance to celebrate what it means to be Church against the real, urgent and increasing threat of climate and other environmental crises. And to rediscover the meaning of a distinctive human calling of justice, care, guidance and partnership with – as well as dependence on – fellow creatures with whom we share so much.

Next month we shall start collecting items to go in shoe boxes, these will be wrapped and given out on the ships during the Christmas season. If you would like to donate items for this very worthwhile cause please consider popping a couple of extra items in with your weekly shop (tooth brushes, toothpaste, combs, razors, deodorant etc). Also, knitted hats, scarves, gloves or socks are all useful items to include in the boxes. From the beginning of September a large box will be at the back of the church for you to put items in, these will then be divided between boxes to make up the Christmas gifts. For further information please contact Rev John Attenborough or Christine Taylor at St Barnabas’ Church.

The next Tabletop Sales will be on Saturday 7th October, 4th November and 2nd December. The cost is €12.50 for a pitch, the length of one long table. A limited number of tables are available for hire at an additional cost of €5 per table. These must be pre-booked. Please contact Nora 99356451 or email [email protected] if you would like to reserve a pitch. Remember you are helping the environment by recycling things rather than consigning them to a landfill site. Buyers – you can pick up bargains. Previous items for sale have included art, baby items, books, bric-a-brac, DVDs, household goods, jewellery, small collectible antiques, good quality new and second-hand clothing, handmade crafts, pre-loved treasures, toys, yummy home baking and much more besides.

Looking Ahead – Harvest Festival will be celebrated on 15th October followed by a Bring & Share lunch in the chaplaincy garden.
