Cyprus Road Tax for 2026 is payable from the first week of January 2026. As with previous years, no reminders are sent to vehicle owners, so make sure you check and renew on time.
Payment Options
Vehicle owners can choose to pay Road Tax for three, six, nine, or twelve months, making it possible to spread the cost over multiple instalments.
Road Tax can be paid at:
- Road Transport Department offices
- Citizen Service Centres
- District Post Offices
- Online at rtd.mcw.gov.cy
Renewal Through Banks
The Road Transport Department has previously clarified that banks do not process road tax at their counters.
Any bank-related renewal has to be completed online only.
Vehicle owners should therefore not go to banks expecting to renew their licence in person.
Deadline for Renewal
The final date to renew Cyprus Road Tax for 2026 without any penalty is midnight on Wednesday 11th March 2026.
After the deadline, late renewals typically incur:
- €10 penalty, plus
- 10% of the annual amount due
Requirements for Renewal
To renew Road Tax, the vehicle must have:
- A valid MOT
- Valid insurance coverage
For online renewal you also need:
- The vehicle log book
- The ID number used when the vehicle was originally registered (ID card or passport), matching the number shown in the log book under I.C. No. or [C.9]
If You Do Not Intend to Pay Road Tax
If you do not plan to pay Road Tax for 2026, you must submit a request to the Road Transport Department to declare the vehicle immobilised (off the road).
If the vehicle has been scrapped or disposed of, the owner must inform the Department in writing and include a Certificate of Disposal.
Vehicles Not Renewed in Previous Years
Vehicles whose previous year’s Road Tax was not renewed — and which were not declared immobilised — may be removed from the TOM register if the outstanding amount is not settled and the licence is not renewed by the 2026 deadline.
