Coronavirus: 228 new cases announced on Tuesday

Announcement of the Ministry of Health regarding new cases of COVID-19 disease

The Ministry of Health informs that, according to information received today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories, out of a total of 8,887 laboratory diagnoses, 228 new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified.

In detail, the current cases emerged as follows:

  • Out of 528 samples taken through the process of tracking the contacts of already confirmed cases, 40 cases were identified.
  • Out of 3,274 samples taken through private initiative, 127 cases were identified.
  • From 345 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 29 cases were identified.
  • Out of 284 samples taken under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics, 8 cases were identified.
  • Out of 496 samples taken during the passenger and repatriated control, 2 cases were identified.
  • Out of 1,650 samples taken in the Limassol District as part of the control of employees who fall under the exemptions for movement to and from the Limassol and Paphos Districts, 3 cases were identified.
  • From 942 samples taken in the District of Nicosia in the context of control of employees who fall under the exemptions for movement to and from the Provinces of Limassol and Paphos, 3 cases were identified.
  • Of the 268 samples taken under the Immigrant Structure Control Program, 16 cases were identified.



In addition, laboratory tests were performed by the following programs, without detecting a case:

  • From samples taken as part of the laboratory testing program carried out in nursing homes and other structures, 249 laboratory tests were completed,
  • As part of the sampling carried out by the KOP in Associations participating in its events, the laboratory test was performed for 1 sample,
  • From samples taken under the control program of students, teachers and school staff, 147 laboratory diagnoses were performed,
  • From samples taken from the inhabitants of Kato Pyrgos Tillirias, 103 laboratory diagnoses were completed, and
  • From samples taken in the District of Paphos in the context of control of employees who fall under the exemptions for movement to and from the Districts of Limassol and Paphos, 600 laboratory tests were performed.

Therefore, based on the data so far, the total number of cases is 7,513.

In addition, the Famagusta General Hospital treats 54 people positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, six of whom are in the Intensive Care Unit. In addition, the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital treats a total of ten patients, three of whom are out of ventilator. Another ten people are being treated in a COVID-19 ward at the Nicosia General Hospital.
