Coronavirus: 1 Death and 198 New Cases Announced on Wednesday

Announcement of the Ministry of Health regarding new cases of COVID-19 disease

The death of a 74-year-old COVID-19 patient with underlying diseases, who was treated at the Famagusta General Hospital, is announced. The ultimate cause of death is attributed to COVID-19. The total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 disease is 41, – 25 men (61%) and 16 women (39%), with an average age of 75 years.

The Ministry of Health informs that, according to information received today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories, out of a total of 7,049 laboratory diagnoses, 198 new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified.

In detail, the current cases emerged as follows:

  • Out of 694 samples taken through the process of tracking the contacts of already confirmed cases, 64 cases were identified.
  • Out of 2,847 samples taken through private initiative, 98 cases were identified.
  • Out of 475 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 15 cases were identified.
  • From 289 samples taken under the program of referrals by Personal Doctors and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics, 8 cases were identified.
  • Out of 1,379 samples taken in the District of Limassol as part of the control of workers who fall under the exemptions for movement to and from the Districts of Limassol and Paphos, 9 cases were identified.
  • Out of 528 samples taken under the control program of students, teachers and school staff, 4 cases were identified.



In addition, laboratory tests were performed by the following programs, without detecting a case:

  • From samples taken under the immigration structure control program, 45 laboratory tests were completed,
  • From samples taken in the context of passenger and repatriated control, 207 laboratory diagnoses were performed,
  • As part of the sampling carried out by the KOP in Associations participating in its events, the laboratory test was performed for 1 sample,
  • From samples taken from the inhabitants of Kato Pyrgos Tillirias, 114 laboratory diagnoses were completed, and
  • From samples taken in the District of Paphos in the context of control of employees who fall under the exemptions for movement to and from the Districts of Limassol and Paphos, 470 laboratory tests were performed.

It is noted that today’s new cases include 14 PCR verifications from cases that were detected positively through the rapid antigen test method in the previous days. For the rest, the laboratory examination by PCR has not been completed at the moment. Positive rapid antigen detection tests confirmed by PCR are included in the total number of cases below.

Therefore, based on the data so far, the total number of cases is 7,711.

In addition, the Famagusta General Hospital treats 57 people positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, six of whom are in the Intensive Care Unit. In addition, the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital treats a total of ten patients, four of whom are out of ventilator. Another ten people are being treated in a COVID-19 ward at the Nicosia General Hospital.
