The World Nations Cup draws ever nearer and preparations are reaching their peak. The organisers have now confirmed 110 teams from 40 nations will take part in Torrevieja, Spain, in October. Congratulations go to those players selected for Cyprus, 42% being Cypriot. This is great news, given the biggest challenge faced by WFiC has been balancing competitiveness with inclusion.
WFiC is delighted with the support this squad has received and believes that walking football will son be formally recognised in Cyprus as a way of helping older footballers keep fit and healthy.
Games in Spain will streamed live and this publicity will shine a spotlight on walking football in Cyprus, encouraging Cypriots to take part, and new clubs emerge who perhaps, with the support of the Cyprus FA will put themselves forward for district leagues and the next world nations cup in 2027.
As they make history, we wish the squad the very best in October. We are family ειμαστε οικονενεια.
Over the last couple of months we have introduced the beginnings of our new venture, “WFiC Kicking Cancer Team”. We have progressed and now have a plan to play the visiting England Parkinsons Team when they arrive in the coming weeks. This is a terrific opportunity to showcase the benefits of this great game. The date of the game has yet to be finalised.
