We are looking forward to another year of running in 2023. The Handicap Run was such a success last year that Alan has agreed to run the Handicap Series once a month throughout 2023 and members are looking forward to competing for the trophy. We also plan to hold another Club Relay Race in the spring and again in autumn, last year’s was such fun! With Neil and Louise being the winners and Louise was particularly thrilled to win her first ever trophy.
Christmas Social Event
The club had an extremely successful Christmas Lunch on the 17th December held at Chalkies Bar, who did us, proud with good food and entertainment. It was the first time in the club’s history that we presented 4 trophies to members for the following categories, Handicap Winner, Most Improved Runner, Member of the Year and Runners’ Runner Award.
Alan and Margaret Lovejoy were unable to attend the Christmas Lunch so Ron, Christine and Di paid Alan a surprise visit to present him the Member of the Year Award – well deserved. Margaret over the years has managed WCR’s website so as a thank you they presented Margaret with a lovely Poinsettia plant.
Most Improved Runner – Suzie Burke, Suzie clearly demonstrated improvement during 2022, previously completing the C25K, then continued with the None to Run plan, successfully competing in a 5km race and later on in the year ran her first 10km race achieving a PB!
Handicap Winner and the Runner’ Runner Award – Di Nash, Di was a clear winner of the Handicap series, with Christine Bell in 2nd place and Neil Bithell taking 3rd place. Di also received the most votes from club members for the Runners’ Runner trophy and Claire Rinkes runners up. There were very positive comments made for both Di and Claire in particularly about their running achievements over the year. One member said of Di, “I want what she has in her tea, where does she get that energy from – the Clubs Duracell Bunny!!”
West Coast Runners would like to thank Stavros Kakourides for kindly sponsoring the 4 trophies.
A new runner’s programme is planned to commence during March 2023. For further information please contact Di, Course Leader 97761015.
January has been a relatively quiet month with regard to running events, however, some members got together for the traditional Christmas run and also enjoyed a run on New Year’s Day and of course we welcomed in the New Year with the traditional New Year’s Cake, celebrating the clubs success in 2022. If you are thinking of taking up running then why not join our friendly and supportive club, meet new friends and enjoy running with like-minded people.
So – New Year, New Club, New Friends, So – what’s stopping you?
