Run – Bike – Swim – Hike
We’re an established multi-sports club with a range of interests, welcoming runners, cyclists, swimmers, and hikers of all abilities. Whether you’re just starting out or an experienced athlete, there’s a place for you here.
Good things come in threes
Billed as Cyprus’ flagship multisport race, the Ayia Napa Triathlon begins with a swim in Nissi Bay, followed by a bike ride through the surrounding countryside and a run along the coastline. Three PRC triathletes took part on 22nd March, each delivering outstanding performances.
Carla Poole took on her first middle-distance triathlon, a gruelling 1.9k swim, 90k bike, and 21k run. In good conditions (apart from a lively sea), she powered through to finish in an impressive 5 hours 52 minutes, securing third place female overall.
Sarah O’Toole and Liz Dunlop competed in the Olympic distance event (1.6k swim, 40k bike, 10k run). Both athletes performed amazingly and achieved third place in their respective age categories.
Three disciplines, three determined athletes, and three podium finishes – outstanding!
Around Cyprus on a bike
Our cycling group, affectionately known as the Wheelnutters, are in training for their first “Round the Island” adventure at the end of April. Their ambitious eight-day journey will follow a clockwise coastal route, covering approximately 650 kilometres. Daily distances range from a steady 58k to a more demanding 100k.
Nine members will complete the full route, while three others will rotate riding days. The group will be supported by three vehicles, ensuring riders are well looked after along the way.
It won’t be all about the cycling. The itinerary includes time to explore some of Cyprus’ most scenic locations, including Pomos, Kyrenia, the Panhandle, Famagusta, Cape Greco and Pervolia.
Evenings will no doubt focus on rest, recovery, and well-earned refuelling in preparation for the next day’s ride.
There are runners and then there are PRC legends
Some PRC members take running to extraordinary levels, tackling events that stretch both physical and mental limits.
Chris Coleman and Jon Kew recently competed in the Cyprus Backyard Challenge, a unique endurance event where participants run 6.7k every hour on the hour until only one remains. Battling both travel fatigue and illness, Chris completed a creditable four laps (26.8k), while Jon pushed on to an impressive seven laps (46.9k).
Ultra runner Chetna Grimshaw took part in the 24-hour Serres Circuit Endurance Run in Greece, held on the famous 3k motorsport circuit. Despite not feeling her best, she showed resilience and determination to complete a remarkable 103k within the time limit.
Meanwhile, Lee Stevens was the solo marathon entry at the Apliki charity run, running six loops of a 7k road and trail route, with a climb of nearly 1500m. In true PRC spirit, other members joined him along the way, with Lisa Gwynne, Nick Crockett, and Karen Bury completing one, two, and three loops respectively.
