Paphos Running Club: “If You Can’t Stand the Heat . . .”

As the saying goes, “Stay out of the Kitchen”! Good advice, but NOT really our style because whatever the weather, we are out there doing something physical, even if running may not always be the key element!

The “Frolic”, the “Oddball Olympics”, and the “Pikni Relays”, all involve team-based challenges for walkers and runners, with the season-long Points Competition also open to swimmers and cyclists.

The Frolic 21st May 2023

This involved several challenges, for example one team member had to eat as much of a watermelon as possible within 2 minutes, but they were not allowed to handle the melon so had to be “force-fed” by their team members!

The whole thing involved fancy dress, for which additional points were awarded, and the final activity was a Wheelbarrow Relay Race.

Pikni Relays 11th June 2023

“The Best Yet” was the consensus opinion of this year’s relays with around 70 people gathering in the slightly cooler climes of the Pikni Forest. The event involved evenly balanced teams of 7 runners and walkers followed by a sumptuous barbecue.
This was rounded off very nicely with a variety of cakes, at which point the volunteer servers were trampled in the rush!

Sole Sisters

We Sole Sisters are still out there doing our thing, and even though it is now really hot, we don’t let that stop us, we just go earlier and maybe finish off with a swim!

So ladies, whatever your age or fitness level, if you fancy a little run, a walk or a jog with like-minded souls, and of course a chat over coffee or a cold drink, why not join us on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday morning?

Octoberfest

Looking forwards a couple of months to cooler weather, these annual Sole Sisters initiatives are worthy of special mention because being in aid of a very good cause, they are always well attended.

Each year we raise thousands of Euros for the local “Breast of Friends” cancer charity, so please get these dates in your diary and come along:

  • Charity 5km Run/ Walk 21st October in Paphos
    (route to be decided)
  • Charity Coffee Morning 26th October in Coral Bay
    (Frog and Toad)
