News From The Anglican Church Of Paphos, August 2022

August is the peak of the wedding season in Cyprus, especially in the Paphos area. Between Easter and the end of October 2022 due to the lifting of two years of Covid restrictions, many hundreds of weddings are planned to be held, the majority being ‘Civil’ ceremonies at a Town Hall or hotel venue.

However, a number of couples still like to have what is understood as a ‘traditional church wedding’ but these ceremonies do not have to take place inside a physical church or chapel.

Here, our Anglican priests are Licensed Marriage Celebrants of the Republic of Cyprus so you do not need an additional civil ceremony prior to your religious wedding. Also, our priests can conduct the service at a venue to suit you – inside a hotel or in the grounds, in a taverna, a villa or gardens, onboard a yacht or even on the beach – the choice is yours. A small intimate affair or large family gatherings can all be accommodated.

We work closely with all major tour operators including TUI and Olympic Holidays. Ask your booking agent about arranging an Anglican marriage service which will become an important part of your special day. We have a flexible, caring and friendly approach to make this your perfect day.

Our popular singing ‘Songs of Praise’ as the sun sets returns on Saturday 10 September. Held annually in the wonderful setting of Ayios Andronikos Park in Polis commencing at 5.30pm, this outdoor event is an enjoyable occasion to sing well-known hymns and listen to memorable poems and readings on this year’s theme of ‘Faith’.

If you like to sing joyful hymns in the company of other people, but don’t attend any church, this is the perfect occasion for you It will last for about one hour concluding as the sun sets behind the park, with a retiring collection for St Luke’s chosen charity the Dreamland Mission Hospital in Kenya.

Following the service, we will be delighted for visitors to join us for a meal at a local taverna in Polis, or one of the fish restaurants at nearby Latchi. For further information email: [email protected].
