Greetings from Christine Taylor – Limassol Parish

The sun is out, the sky is blue, tourists are returning to our lovely island and friends, who we haven’t seen for a while, are coming back to church.

Yes, summer has arrived and we are delighted that shading has been installed in the grounds around our church where we often meet to enjoy friendship and fellowship after our Sunday service and occasionally during the week. During the first few weeks of May, Scott Givhan spent many hours installing the framework and thanks to a very generous donation from Limassol Coeur de Lion Lions Club, we were able to extend the shaded area in time for our Art & Craft Fair on 21st May. It was a lovely afternoon, albeit extremely windy, but it didn’t stop us having a good time and raising funds for our church. Christin Givhan coordinated the event arranging for many different stallholders to display and sell their wares, we were entertained by various musicians and singers and of course, there were plenty of refreshments available to sustain us.

We were so grateful for the shading on the evening of 11th June when we celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, 93 guests joined us in the church grounds for an evening of fun, fellowship and fundraising. The entertainment was supplied by the Limassol Fun Band and our DJ Andy who kept the party going all evening.

Dimi Mavropoulos, the owner of the Cyprus Historic and Classic Motor Museum, has supported our church for many years and he loaned us a 1952 Morris Traveller “Woody”,for the event. It was good to see people admire this lovely vehicle and take the opportunity for a memorable photograph.

The site was decorated with bunting and balloons, we toasted Her Majesty with a glass of prosecco and enjoyed a piece of celebration cake made by Carol Nicholson.

A lot of flag waving went on as we sang Land of Hope & Glory and Rule Brittania and of course, everyone was upstanding for God Save the Queen.

A truly memorable evening and a great way to honour Her Majesty after 70 years of dedicated service, LONG MAY SHE REIGN.

Ascension day was celebrated at The Hillview Restaurant in Pissouri, led by our Chaplain, Father Ian Nicholson and joined by a

small group of worshippers who stayed on to enjoy breakfast after the service.

On 20th July, Archbishop Michael Lewis will be presiding at the service at St Lazarus Church in Pissouri, do come along and join us at 6.00pm under the amphitheatre.

The table top sales continue to be very popular, the next one is on 2nd July but we will not be having one in August, please contact Nora to reserve a pitch or come along on the day to offer help and support, there is always lots to do and and you may even find yourself a bargain.

In the wire cage by the front gate, we continue to collect “Cans for Kids” the proceeds from the money generated from these cans goes to good charitable causes which we are keen to support. Also, items of dried and tinned food continue to come in so that we can help the needy in our community, monetary donations are also welcome for the purchase of items when required.

Wednesday mornings we have our midweek communion service starting at 9.30am, the service lasts approximately 30 minutes and we are always happy to welcome new friends to join us.

Do come along and visit us, our church is always open if you want to come along for a time of quiet reflection or, if you would like someone to talk to, get in touch and we can arrange that for you. Our pastoral care team do try and visit those who are at home but if you know of anyone who needs a visit or a phone call please let us know.
