Life Through The Eyes Of Merlin & Morgane

“We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals” (Immanuel Kant)

7th of April 2021, the day when it all started… Just two or three days before, the most beautiful feline family had arrived as rescue at the Animal Rescue Cyprus reception centre. One young mother and her two offspring were now becoming the responsibility of the biggest rescue centre on the island. Another case, another mission to keep alive and healthy animals nobody wanted, nobody cared for. Not the first time and certainly not the last this was happening. And so, the usual process started, and on the 7th of April, when a photo of the family was taken and send casually, with the caption ‘aren’t these the cutest!’. Never a rehome has taken less time and never a decision to enlarge a family with two shelter animals must have been taken quicker. This is how it all started.

At the end of May 2021, the now 4 month-old kittens were getting their wings to join their very excited adopters, all the way to Paris! After a long journey Merlin & Morgane, as they were now called, arrived into the home of the most loving, caring and kind people any rehoming organization would wish to count among its supporters. And what a joyous moment that was! After nearly two months of preparation, Merlin & Morgane were at the start of their happy forever after in an environment that had been adapted prior to their arrival to respect the needs of cats, to keep them entertained, interested and safe. Every single effort was made to make sure the new family members would have a perfect life, every piece of advice was taken on board, and every possible problem was discussed. The M&Ms were very much landing on their paws, and the news of their mother getting adopted in the UK gave the story an even happier ending.

As life went on, Merlin & Morgane adapted to their new life so well that in the heat of summer, with all precautions taken, the whole family went on holiday in the Alps. Yes, you read that right. Our two little beans are since travelling everywhere and anywhere, they get their own train tickets, they go to the busiest of places in the very heart of Paris, stopping in fancy places where they are made to feel welcomed and loved. Paris may have its own attractions, but Merlin & Morgane are now one of them for sure!

For us here at Animal Rescue Cyprus, the lesson to be drawn from this story is that people with the heart and mind in the right place for animals DO exist. When those people have an open mind, are keen to learn and embrace their new life as adoptive parents to shelter animals, then we have a reason to go on and hope for the future.
