What a month it has been for dramatic weather in Cyprus. High winds, low winds rain & high temperatures but PISC keep sailing.
June saw two major sailing events at Agios Georgios, the Summer Regatta & the Around Island Race.
The Blevins Franks Summer Regatta overall winer was Mike Vassilou who also won the Laser Fleet Class. Robin Marsh & Barbara Jones won the General Fleet Class.
Our congratulations to them all & indeed all those who took part or attended the Hog Roast in the ‘PISC Village’ in the evening. Our Thanks to Nick Cairnes of Blevins Franks who presented the winning prize.
The Around the Island Race will take place after we have gone to press. As suggested by the name it takes place around an island which is just off Agios Georgios, the island of Yeronisos. The prizes will be presented by Professor Jean Connelly who has directed the NYU Yeronisos Island Excavation and Field School for some 30 years. Professor Connelly has recently been awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Pafos. A well deserved accolade & we are honoured that she can spare the time in her busy schedule to award the prizes.
The Summer Series continues with Robin Marsh & Barbara Jones currently in the lead, it’s all to sail for!!!
The Letymbou Taverna May Monthly Series was won by Steve Riddell in his Dart 16. However, as Steve is currently off island Tony Edwards received the award on his behalf.
As well as our sailing activities our social events are also taking place at our clubhouse. For example, during the month of May we hosted a spectacular Car Treasure Hunt. The event went down very well, despite a few people getting well and truly lost! There was a delicious BBQ arrange by our very capable club volunteers which went down a storm. The chicken was cooked to perfection. There were plenty of laughs once we located everyone !
PISC also hosted a very special afternoon; Colour with Confidence hosted by our own club member Julie. It was an absolute rip roaring success. The ladies in attendance were greeted with chilled Prosecco upon arrival and were resplendent in their eye-catching, colourful outfits. The room was brimming with confidence. Julie’s many years of experience shone through as she confidently talked us through the shopping rules, how to identify if we were a ‘silver’ or a ‘gold’ before going on to help us identify our best colours.
Julie was brave enough to bring along a few items from her wardrobe, which were disasters for her and some of the ladies bought pieces which didn’t work for them. How brave! Julie amiably talked us through why they didn’t work based on the colour and the shapes.
We enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea (lots of tea and coffee) with little sandwiches, delicious savoury snacks and delicate cakes all donated for the event. There was plenty for everyone.
So you see, here at PISC we don’t just sail, we also socialise!
