It has been a busy couple of months for the women’s walking footballers in Cyprus.
In APRIL, we welcomed Midlothian Ladies from Scotland for their second visit.
Two representative teams were selected to play against them at Aphrodite Hills Sports centre.
Both hugely enjoyable, highly competitive matches which gave our ladies a good indication of the progress being made.
Goals by Linda Allott and a brace for Kate Jones, gave our ladies a brilliant 1-0 win and hard fought 2-2 draw against the more experienced opposition. Post-match refreshments were enjoyed at the bar afterwards.
MAY saw the arrival of Thames Ladies from Surrey, again on their second visit to Cyprus.
Boasting at least three international representative players, and unbeaten during their visit, we knew that it would be a tough match for our ladies, but relished the challenge.
It did not disappoint our many supporters looking on from outside the pitch.
A pulsating, tactical display by our selected Cyprus Rep team, frustrated the opposition, and despite some fantastic, skilful play by both teams and a last 10 minute onslaught by Thames, our ladies held on to win 2-1, both goals scored by Kate Jones.
Also a big shout out to Shazza for an excellent display in goal and her brilliant penalty save! A fantastic result!
The ladies coaching team led by head coach Mick Bartley was hugely impressed with the performance.
‘The way the ladies played tonight, is an indication that all the hard work put in at the monthly training days is now starting to show, especially on the pitch.
We look forward to continuing the progress over the coming months, with a trip to Crete in the planning and the visit of England Women’s Over 50’s and Over 60’s teams early next year.
Cyprus Ladies Walking Football is moving onwards and upwards’
