Paphos Running Club

Run – Bike – Swim – Hike

We’re an established multi-sports club with a range of interests, welcoming runners, cyclists, swimmers, and hikers of all abilities. Whether you’re just starting out or an experienced athlete, there’s a place for you here.

PRC Tri-umphant!

Challenging conditions defined the Paphos Triathlon on 3rd May, with heavy rain, slippery roads, and reduced visibility. Several of our competitors had to withdraw, and a water-filled pothole necessitated a tyre change. Despite setbacks, club members achieved strong performances.

Our ladies’ Sprint team, Vanessa Morton, Christine Airey, and Jill McCool, in their first triathlon, secured first place. In the mixed Sprint team category, PRC teams Mark Robertson, Andy McCullough, and Thecla Strydom claimed first, with Andy Walker, David Steele, and Magda Wardacka-Taylor coming third, and even having dealt with a puncture, Julian Sydow and Nora Ndivo came in fourth.

Individual successes included Carla Poole, winning her age group in the Olympic distance, and Sarah O’Toole, placing second in her Sprint age category. Nic and Janet Sutherland also delivered strong performances. PRC is the only multi-sport club in Paphos supporting swimming, cycling, and running.

Aphrodite rocks

The Aphrodite Half Marathon has become a highlight of the PRC calendar. Held on 19th April, the event featured half marathon, 10K, and 5K races along scenic coastal routes out of Polis. With over 30 entrants, PRC once again received the award for the most participants from a single club. Club volunteers also contributed significantly, assisting with marshalling duties during a well-run event.

PRC athletes achieved nine podium finishes. In the half, Carla Poole placed third, while Thecla Strydom and Julie Rossouw each secured second place, in their age categories. In the 10K, Ben Green and Karen Bury both won their age categories, Karen recording a PB of 49:19. The women’s over-60 category saw a PRC clean sweep, with Karen Bury first, Caz Gill second, and Liz Dunlop third. Additional podium finishes came from Lisa Gwynne (first in her age group) and Steve Fenech (third in his age group) in the 5K.

And now for something completely different

On 25th April, PRC members took on the Hyrox Limassol Simulation, a demanding fitness race combining 8 km of running with eight functional workout stations. In the doubles Jackie Mizon and Jinty Edwards, each partnered with their daughters, alongside the mixed team of John Yarnell and Sara Spitall. Individual competitors were John Kew and Gary Spiers, all stepping into a new and highly challenging format.

Hyrox is known for its intensity, requiring sustained effort under conditions of cumulative fatigue, with no breaks between running and workout stations. Despite rising temperatures and the demanding course, all PRC participants completed the event. While podium finishes were not the objective, the group embraced the challenge, gaining valuable experience and a sense of achievement. The event highlighted the importance of integrating strength training into running activities.
