Paphos Running Club: October 2024

Run – Bike – Swim – Hike

We welcome everyone from beginners to international athletes, so find out more about our Ladies-only Sole Sisters section, our Wave Warriors, our Wheelnutters cycling group, our flourishing Walking group, and our Triathlon sessions, at ‘Paphos Running Club’ website or Facebook page.

Sole Sisters
Autumn is almost upon us but we are eagerly awaiting October, firstly because it is a very busy month, including the “Breast of Friends” (BoF) charity walk/run, which is always enthusiastically attended by many locals, visitors and Sole Sisters alike. Why not come along and join in on Saturday 19th October in time for the start at 4pm near the fort in Paphos harbour?

Secondly, we then get to eat cake (probably the main reason most of us run!) at the BoF Coffee Morning on 24th October at 11am in the Frog and Toad in Coral Bay. See you there?
Thirdly, October is the month when we all change out of our renowned fluo-yellow tops into bright pink to support breast cancer awareness.

Our main event this month is our 9-week Couch to 5k programme (C25K), starting at 8:15am on Monday 7th October. Everyone is welcome to join in so if you want to learn some running basics, or shed a few pounds before the onslaught of the festive season, contact Sue Cordrey at: [email protected]

Wheelnutters – Cedar Valley Bimble
Most of our rides are based around Corallia, but we frequently ride much further afield as you can see from this photo of 70-year-young Jennifer Clarke enjoying a recent group ride along Cedar Valley.

“Away from it all” with PRC
October is also when we restart our popular Triathlon Training sessions, in anticipation of the Olympusman Half-Ironman on Saturday 2nd November starting in Paphos Harbour.

1st September Paphos Park Run
Another good turnout in slightly cooler temperatures this month saw PRC take 6 age group wins despite several visiting UK clubs featuring prominently in the results table. New member Jonathan Kew finished second overall, narrowly beaten by Jamie Ovens from Dumfries.
Jonathan was ably backed up by Thecla Strydom, Keith Cousins and Mark Russell, so we recorded the fastest aggregate team time, 2 minutes ahead of visitors Newquay and Par Athletic Club.
