The met office issued a yellow alert on Thursday urging members of the public to be aware of the possibility of severely bad weather, as winds reaching as strong as gale force eight can be expected over the coming days.
Rains and storms were expected between Thursday and Friday but the main characteristic would be very strong winds, the met office said.
Fire service spokesman Andreas Kettis, said that they had been called to deal with emergencies in the Famagusta, Limassol, Paphos and Larnaca districts, concerning falling tents and trees, and water pumping.
Gale force winds and heavy rainfall also caused several problems in Paphos on Thursday, as a sign fell on a car and a fallen tree blocked a road.
The low-pressure system expected in Cyprus on Thursday already reached Paphos, which has been experiencing gale-force winds and torrential rainfall since early in the morning.
