Happy new year to all walking footballers in Cyprus! After a short break we are back with a bang. As early as January 4th the third round of the WFiC Winter League was held at AM Fair Game Centre in Tremithousa. The reigning champions, ENAD, won all three of their games without conceding a goal, and have now opened up a 9 point gap at the top of the league over the three teams from Pafos United. But the Pafos teams will fight on and push ENAD all the way. With three games played in each round the picture can quickly change.
While memories of the World Nations Cup in Spain last October will never fade away, we now look forward to further international action. Lots of new contacts were made in Spain and options are now opening up for this year. Currently there are two major events to focus on. The first being in Liverpool in early March. Cyprus has been invited to take part in an event hosted by England, and includes France, Jersey, and Scotland. It is an honour to be included in this calibre of walking football.
The second event will be the European Nations Cup, most likely played again in Spain in September.
To achieve these goals WFiC requires funding. As in 2025, it is expensive to move a group across Europe. Flights, hotels, and local transport being the largest items for funding. To this end; if any local companies will consider supporting these events financially, we would be extremely grateful to meet you and discuss collaboration.
On the footballing side; we are always looking for new talent to play and to coach. There is an open invitation to all Cyprus based clubs to join a team selection trial being held at AM Fair Game Centre on February 8th at 5 – 7 p.m. To be considered for the Cyprus Representative team, the individual must be able to prove they are over 50 years of age, and have at least five years residency in Cyprus.
