Oh, what a lovely time of year. The summer heat has abated and it’s a great time to be out running round this beautiful island of Cyprus. If you’re out and about you will have probably noticed the increase in runners, joggers & walkers, especially along the coastal path between Paphos & Coral Bay. Hopefully in the not-too-distant future we may be able to follow a path right along to Agios Georgios. We are lucky that around us we have so many routes to choose from, be it on road or off road through some lovely villages just outside Paphos. Our Sunday runs often include these scenic routes and more often than not finish with a nice coffee at a local cafe. Check out our monthly schedule on FB for more information.
Couch to 5k
West Coast Runners are a small, friendly club who welcomes everyone, whatever stage their running journey is at. We love meeting new people and with our new 10-week Couch to 5k course starting on Saturday 5th October it is a great opportunity for any new runners or those returning after a break to get the help and encouragement they may need. The first session will start at the Lighthouse Beach Café at 8.00 a.m. where you will see the WCR flag as our meeting point. The cost of the course is €5.00 which includes weekly mentoring sessions, and we promise you a fun and supportive way to your first 5K! For further information please contact Di, Course Leader on 97761015 or Christine on 97757159.
Kathikas Fun Walk-Run
As promised in last month’s edition we have our report on the annual Kathikas Village walk/run. This was the 15th year for this great event which takes place on the first Sunday in August. Several members of West Coast Runners took part. The walkers/runners start from the Kathikas Church square and finish at Agios Georgios, having completed 14K of mostly downhill, but with a few uphills, thrown in for good measure! Refreshments were very welcome at the end, our grateful thanks to all the organisers of this much looked forward to event. One of our runners, Joanna, had not run this before and who completed the run in a very good time, had this to say “Daunting as it was for my first ever run of the Kathikas, I found it undulating but with beautiful scenery and thigh breaking episodes. I couldn’t sit down for 2 days after, but I would definitely do it again. A positive challenge and experience! Roll on next year” Well done Joanna & all who took part.
West Coast Runners on Tour.
It was homeward bound to Kathy Kaiser who flew to Dublin in August to see family and escape the heat.
Kathy still managed to complete her 5k on the club handicap Saturday and enjoyed the peaceful and sunny days in her home village. Well done Kathy.
That’s all for this edition but we will bring you a report next month on our annual WCR Relay & BBQ which will take place at the end of September. Hopefully, it will be a bit cooler than last year!!!
Don’t forget to check out West Coast Runners Facebook page for monthly schedules and more photos of weekly sessions and some races too.
