West Coast Runners Cyprus, December 2024

Well, it is finally here, the month that we can now say the “C” word!! Christmas is almost here and with many members counting down the days when they can enjoy spending time with their family and friends running activities do taper down. There are fewer races in December and with the weather cooling down it is usually the West Coast Runners schedule that keeps members active. However, with the 2025 Logicom Races in March, preparations will be taking place for those competing in the Marathon, Half Marathon, 10km and 5km races. Our schedule and future events are updated monthly and can be found at the top of our Facebook page or please get in touch with our Chair, Di on 97761015 for more details.

Monthly Handicap

Our final handicap session took place on 30th November, after the deadline for this month’s press release. We will share the winners & runners up positions in the January issue. It has been an enjoyable and well-supported event and it’s been great to see some new names creeping into the top half of the table. Who will the 2024 champion be?

KYRIAKIDEIA – Cross Country

Situated in the village of Statos Agios Photios, this race took place on Sunday 27th October.
Statos Agios Photios is a beautiful village, and the route itself offers some breath-taking scenery.

Five West Coast Runners took part this year and one of our team had this to say; “Temperatures were still unusually warm for this time of year however the organizers must have been expecting a slightly cooler day as we were all gifted pack-a-macs! Thankfully, they were not required.

The race was well attended, and the lively, busy village was packed with supporters and volunteers. The race is a slightly difficult and hilly 14Km trail run and due to the hills and the nature of the terrain, it is advantageous to have the routes on your phones or watches. This would ensure that you would finish the run in a good time without any problems occurring en route.” Well done to all who took part.

YORK MARATHON

In October two of our Associate Members, Sarah & Richard Holden, ran the York Marathon with their family. It was their son Joe’s first marathon, and they said, “weather was awful, but we loved every minute of our family marathon.” Well done to you all. See you next time you are in Cyprus.

BREAST OF FRIENDS CHARITY WALK/RUN

On Saturday 19th October a few members took part in the “Breast of Friends” charity walk/run to raise funds for this organization which helps and supports people diagnosed with breast cancer. The walk started at Paphos Harbour and went to the Elysium Hotel and back. It was great to see so many people taking part during “Breast Cancer Awareness Month.” Well done to everyone who took part and to the organizers for all their work.

Do not forget to check out West Coast Runners and West Coast Walkers Facebook pages for some great photographs of the many activities that have taken place during 2024 and watch this space for a new feature for 2025.

We wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and best wishes for the New Year.
