Dare I say it, Christmas is on its way and many members are counting down the days when they can enjoy spending time with their family and friends. There are fewer races in December and with the weather finally cooling down it is usually the West Coast Runners schedule that keeps members active. If you are interested in joining us, whether you are an experienced runner or just want to give it a go then you will be given a warm welcome. Our Facebook page is kept up to date with our monthly schedules – take a look it could be the start of your new journey. For more information, please call Di on 97761015 or Gerry on 99926291.
Kyriakideia, Statos-Ayios Photios, 15K Trail Race:
What a brilliant day out on the trails! The West Coast fearless hill-climbers, Claire Rinkes, Jacqui Petrie, Joanne Parry, Neil Bithell and Ruth Poole participated in the Kyriakideia 15K Trail Race. The new route gave us plenty to talk about, a few extra climbs, not quite as many descents and some absolutely stunning scenery to keep our spirits high. It was hilly, it was tough, but we tackled them together and had a great time! The Goody bag was great with a Tee-shirt, gummy sweets, cup and cap. A big thank you, to the organisers for a smooth event, clear markings, cheerful Marshals and lots of water stops to keep us going. There were lots of bananas, savouries and water provided at the end.
We did it- every hill, every step, every smile! Until next time….rest those legs and start planning the next adventure!
Monthly Handicap Series:
The club Handicap is run over 11 months of the year-an initial run in January to set each person’s base time then 2 sets of 5 events over the next 10 months. The emphasis is on individual pace control rather than racing each other so as to make it fairer for all levels of ability. The best 7 results for each person are used for the final table.
It has been and evenly contested event this year with the final result not being decided until November.
Social Events:
The final Social Event of 2025 is the Christmas Lunch and Award Presentation, to be held at Martikas Kitchen, on the 14th December. Members and their guests are looking forward to celebrating the achievements of all club members, sharing memories and having good food/drink. It should be a fun filled afternoon! An account of the afternoon will be included in the January Press Release.
West Coast Walkers:
West Coast Walkers have done a variety of different and enjoyable walks over the past year. Including trail walks, such as, the Witches Gorge, Blue Lagoon and Pano Arodes taking in the beautiful scenery on the Akamas. There have also been a variety of coastal walks, including walks in the Coral Bay/Peyia area and along different parts of the coastal footpath. One West Coast Walker stated, “Mondays are not so bad when you’re out walking with great company, blue skies and sunshine!” What could be better than joining like-minded individuals on a Monday morning who enjoy walking?
We welcome all walkers whatever your ability, young and the not so young! There is something for everyone to enjoy. Please see the West Coast Walkers Facebook page for meeting points and start times.
