Pafos United Walking Football Club

Over the winter months the club were introduced to a new venture; Cyprus Kicking Cancer Walking Football Team dedicated to men and women recovering from cancer in any of its forms. Several club members have participated alongside numerous others from clubs across the island which is intended to be for both newcomers to the game, as well as experienced footballers.

Congratulations go those club members, Paul Frazer, Billy Smith, Nicos Antoniades, Barry Levick, Laurence Doughty and Wayne Dore represented Cyprus in the O70’s match and Nik Peltekakis, Dave Chatterley, Malcolm Newell in the O50’s match against England. Congratulations must also go to Ben Tumber (Team Manger) and Nick Dowse (Coach) for both Cyprus teams, also not forgetting both Tony Watson and Kim Solly who were part of the Match Officials Team during the England Men’s Kicking Cancer Team visit.

Pafos United fielded two teams to play the visiting England Men’s Kicking Cancer Team on the 1st of May, resulting in a draw and a loss. This was followed by the newly formed Cyprus Kicking Cancer Walking Football Team providing two mixed teams in exhibition matches against the visitors.

It’s great to welcome new people at any time to Pafos United. We are always looking for new talent, experienced or not. If you’ve ever felt the urge to play in goal, this is your chance. We need dedicated goalkeepers. Not forgetting experienced coaches and referees; if you have played in years gone by, come and share your knowledge and experience.

If you are a lady over 40 or a man over 50, then come and see us at Pafos United Walking Football Club where you can continue your active life. Come along to AM Fair Game Centre on the road to the Tremithousa Industrial Estate and show us your skills. You can find us on Facebook or go to our website puwfc.com. Our regular sessions on Monday and Wednesday evenings starting at 6 p.m., and Friday mornings at 8.30 a.m.

It is with great pleasure that we congratulate one of our newer members on being selected as April’s Player of the Month. So well done to Derek Parry. It is great to have you in the club Derek. Since arriving, your dedication has been a great example.

Next up before the summer heat gets to us, a round robin set of matches against ENAS Panthers, Polis & Latchi Lions plus 2 teams from Pafos United on Sunday 10th May. We THEN welcome back Thame Walking Football Club on May 22nd to take part in a round robin event at AM Fair Game Sports Centre in Trmithousa, supporters are always welcome.
