Paphos Running Club: Run – Bike – Swim – Hike

We welcome everyone from beginners to international athletes, so find out more about our Ladies-only Sole Sisters section, our Wave Warriors, our Wheelnutters cycling group, our flourishing Walking group, and our Triathlon sessions, at ‘Paphos Running Club’ website or Facebook page.

2nd November Olympusman

This annual Half-Ironman event is one of the toughest in the international calendar. There are almost 3,000 metres of ascent and the event attracts a high standard of international competitors from all over Europe.

Paphos Running Club always performs well but this year we were optimistic we had a very good chance in the mixed team competition with our swimmer Carla Poole, cyclist Andy McCullough and our runner Kevin Phillips, who is the South African National Race-Walking champion and record holder.

Left to Right: Kevin, Carla, Andy

Carla did a great swim coming out of the water after just 34 minutes so we were lying third overall, 5 minutes down. Andy, who has ridden this route several times in previous years kept his cool and paced himself admirably to overhaul those in front of him on the final steep ascent up from Prodromos to Troodos Square so we were in the lead at the start of the run.
Kevin then delivered – by a considerable margin – the best time on the run we have aver achieved but was overtaken by two runners half his age so we finished 3rd overall, in our best ever time on a very tough day by any standards, due to the weather.

3rd November Oceanman Swimming Championships

Congratulations to PRC Wave Warrior Lisa Gwynne for winning her 5km category at this International championships in Ayia Napa 3rd Nov in a very respectable time of 1hr:48mins.
Other commendable performances included 4th places for Mark Robertson (5km) and Dmitri Vindodgradov (10km) in a very strong pan-European field.

3rd November Paphos Park Run

Established for well over 4 years now, this event always attracts a good field and this month was no exception. With several of our top runners away we were pleased to achieve 5 age group wins, with Ioannis Aresti being one of only 6 runners to break 20 minutes, finishing in 3rd place overall and 1st place on age performance.
