Saturday 16th November saw the Coral Beach Hotel host the 2nd annual Paphos Kidney Association Starlight Ball. The Black Tie fund-raising event was well supported with not a spare seat in the house.
The Association President Grace Cullen welcomed everyone, saying how deeply gratifying it was to see so many supporting the Paphos Kidney Association. Many of those attending were returning for a second year. Grace went on to thank the main sponsors of this year’s Starlight Ball, without whom the event would have been impossible to stage. She also thanked all those people who had donated prizes.
Grace recognised Mr Keith McEwen, who had been the driving force behind the event, thanking him for his tireless work in organising the venue, entertainment, prizes and all other things in between.
Since last year’s very successful Starlight Ball, the Association has worked tirelessly to achieve the goal set by the board at that event. This goal was based on a request by Dr. Pavlos Georgiou, Director of the Renal Unit in St. George’s Hospital, who asked if the Association could, for its 2024 target, supply a Software Sys-tem (TDMS) which would take diagnosis and treatment of patients to a new higher level.
Dr. Pavlos Georgiou explained to the audience that the TDMS system has been developed by Fresenius Medical Care (Germany). It supports patients dialysis treatment, routines, dialysis medication prescriptions and clinical documentation. The system automatically records all vital signs, and the smart features allow the streamlining of the dialysis routines which can be viewed at a glance by the medical and nursing staff. This results in a quality, complication free dialysis session. Most importantly research shows that with this automation, 25 minute of worktime per treatment is saved. The end result is better medical monitoring of treatment and of our patients. This software will allow us to take treatment to the next level.
At a cost of €45,000 the Association realised that this was a big ask but, nevertheless, they accepted the challenge.
In her closing words, Grace identified the Association’s goal for 2025.
She said that in speaking with Dr. Yioukkas Head of the Renal Unit at the General Hospital, she had asked what the Association could do for his patients, and guess what…. he said that he would like the same Therapy Data Management System for his patients and staff….. So here we go again.
