Paphos Running Club: Run – Bike – Swim – Hike, January 2024

As our ‘Run-Bike-Swim-Hike’ strapline indicates, whichever of those activities you enjoy, PRC is the place to be!

As a substantial, well-established club we accommodate all abilities from absolute beginners to international athletes. To find out more about our Couch to 5Km running programmes (next one in March), our Ladies-only Sole Sisters section, our Wheelnutters cycling group, our flourishing Walking group, our swim coaching and Triathlon Training, see our ‘Paphos Running Club’ website or Facebook page.

Larnaca Marathon

Thirty yellow perils ‘invaded’ Larnaca and secured a dozen age-category podium places, including wins for Lisa Gwynne and Peter Portnoi in the 10km race, plus several Personal Best performances.

The events attracted over 4,000 runners, the organisation was excellent and the whole day had a carnival atmosphere.

Our ladies Marathon trio of Thecla Strydom, Chetna Grimshaw and Norah Mwanzau all performed very well, finishing within a couple of minutes of each other. It was Norah’s first ever marathon, and although on finishing she vowed ‘Never Again’, she has since been talking about the Logicom events in March!

Sole Sisters

The end of 2023 was a joyous moment for PRC as a whole and certainly for many Sole Sisters showing their progress in the Larnaka Marathon. A dedicated Norah Mwanzau ran her very first marathon and a flying Rita Leyland recorded a fabulous PB in the 10km race, surpassing her expectations by several minutes. It was certainly a great day and Sole Sisters are sure to come back next year stronger and with a bigger crowd.

Cake and PRC are generally a perfect fit and what better than to celebrate our new C25K graduates with a 5k Carrot Cake Run on 4th December. They all did us proud, running over 5k with a long tail of supporters. Congratulations all, excellent job!

Paphos Park Run 3rd December

Ioannis Aresti 2nd overall

Despite the clash with the Cyprus Athletic Association races based in the harbour the same morning, we still attracted a substantial field of over 50 participants and everything went off very well, even though there was a broken down car on the Coastal Path for the duration of the event!
We won 7 age groups and again came first in the overall age competition with Lisa Gwynne recording an international standard performance of 86.1%.
