Have you noticed all the hot and dusty winds that have hit Cyprus in the past few months? Well, we thought we would introduce you to another one, the Scirocco, however this one was not made in the Sahara Desert, but in Germany by VolksWagon!
Our Classic of the Month is the 1988 Scirocco GT that was acquired by PCVC members Graham and Jacqui the day before the first Covid lockdown. The car was in remarkable rust free condition, especially as it had spent its first 26 years in the UK. After lockdown Graham encountered some minor mechanical problems and found that the fuel tank was full of rusty sludge. Replacing the tank and the rest of the fuel system cured the running problems and he also changed the suspension to reinstate the original configuration. The final part of the restoration being a re-spray in the original colour.
The car is a 3 door, front-wheel drive, sports hatchback and VW manufactured Sciroccos during 1974/1992 and it proved so popular that they resurrected the name in 2008. Graham and Jacqui`s Scirocco is the GT model powered by a four cylinder ,1600 cc, petrol engine which produces 75 bhp through a 5 speed manual gearbox.
You can view this and other classic vehicles at any of the PCVC events, full details of which can be found on our Facebook page, or, our website (www.paphosclassicvehicleclub.com), or, telephone 97760997.
If you did not know the Scirocco is a strong wind that blows from the Sahara Desert into the southern Mediterranean, bringing hot, dust ladened weather.
