Pafos United WFC have experienced a very busy August & September so far and hope that things will continue in the way they’re going. We continue to develop with our new ‘Council’ rather than ‘Committee’ now we’re an official Sports/Social Club and have a number of events and projects in the pipeline.
The Club have just installed a new ‘Storage Shed’, to house all our kit and equipment and are looking for companies to have their logo and company name on it. We will use this wall to present awards in front of hopefully generating lots of interest in the partner sponsors and companies helping Pafos United WFC.
Our Social Events Co-ordinator is busy planning many exciting events for the club, their family and friends to enjoy in the not too distant future. We have new advertising boards ordered and a very exciting project that we will be announcing hopefully next month along with our new website (www.puwfc.com) which is currently under development.
The club has entered 2 teams into a Cyprus Walking Football Tournament being held in Larnaca on 11th October, the first WFAC (Walking Football Association of Cyprus) commence their league on 13th October, where 4 teams will compete for the WFAC Trophy over the following 6 months. Arun Allstars Walking Football Club visit the club mid October to play a couple of competitions and friendly matches as well as join in with PUWFC regular training sessions.
In November we have committed to participate in a Peyia Football Charity event that sounds a very exciting. We are not organising this event, so cannot disclose any more information at this stage, but it’s hopeful it will be held at Peyia FC stadium.
In respect to Charity ourselves, Pafos United WFC held a small Round Robin event on Sunday 15th September raising €652 in donations for the Cancer Patients Support Group. Three teams (Pafos United, Tremithousa Tigers and Pafos Utd Over 70’s) each played 4 games raising funds through player match fees and other individual donations.
Thanks go to Neil & Karen Bushe who organised a raffle as part of the event which added to the personal donations. Significant donations were received from Darren & Debbie Jeavons, and ENAD Polis Panthers Walking Football Club, who weren’t able to take part in the competition due to working commitments.
It was a successful event, played in good spirit and yes you did read correctly Pafos United Over 70’s team does exist and they equipped themselves extremely well. Tremithousa Tigers were the eventual Competition winners. We are also having discussions about other possible Charity events in the forthcoming months.
Any men aged 50+ and women aged 40+ are welcome to come along and see what the buzz is all about. Its a growing sport on the island as new clubs continue to form and be a part of this wonderful game.
Finally the photo shows Pafos United WFC player Alex Cameron receiving the Player of the Month award for August from Honorary President Tony Watson.
