OPEN SPRING / SUMMER REGATTA

It’s full steam (well sail) ahead for May at PISC with a full sailing calendar for May including the Spring / Summer Open Regatta on Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th May. All of the sailing clubs on the island have been invited to take part so we hope for fair weather & a good turnout.

In the March Monthly Series, the winners were Andrey Gursky & Tatiana Antipova, in second place Peter Wade & in third place Paul Hutton-AshKenny & Victoria Newlands.
Well done to you all.

In June we will be staging the Round the Island Race (Yeronissos Island) in conjunction with Professor Joan Beton Connelley and her archaeological team who will be excavating at Agios Georgios again this year. It is now 35 years since archaeological excavation works first started in the area & many of the finds are displayed in the local museum at Agios Georgios. Yeronissos is a protected historical site, no admittance to the general public, but we can still stage races in the sea around the island. More details about the date in next months editorial.

At the end of the Winter Series Paul Hutton-AshKenny & Victoria Newlands look the first prize with Tony Edwards in second place & Peter Wade in third place.

A few weeks ago we had our ‘Fitting Out Supper’ traditionally the time when boats are made ready for use after being laid up for the winter, not that we have to do that in sunny Cyprus, we just sail all the year around. But any excuse for a celebration is fine by PISC & we decided to make the most of it by presenting prizes to winners who were not able to make the prize giving in November. The major prize of the evening, The Dinghy Trophy, was awarded to Tony ‘Bomba’ Edwards who had an exceptional year winning the Quarterly Series twice & coming second in the other two, won the Monthly Series once & also gained places in the Laser Class in both the Summer & Autumn Regatta.

But remember, PISC is not all about sailing, we have many members who do not sail and enjoy the social side of the club based at our clubhouse in Peyia. Coming up for fun we have a cook off between the girls & guys to see who can conjure up the best meal (2-0 to the boys at the moment, just saying!!!).
