Just an hour a week; or more if you wish. How about joining up with ‘Friends of Polis Cats’? We’re a group of friends and volunteers who care for and arrange to neuter some of the many homeless cats in Polis and district.
Sometimes these cats are called ‘feral cats’. This is far from the truth. Many have previously had homes but have been left behind when owners have left the island and have been unable to take their pets with them for one reason or another. Certainly none of them asked for a life of hanging around streets searching for food in waste bins and scrounging from restaurants, so our aim is to feed them, care for their health where possible and try to keep the numbers down by arranging for them to be spayed or neutered,
There are many ways you would be welcomed into Friends of Polis Cats. You could help once a week with a feeding run, feed and make friends with the cats in our shelter near Prodromi, (all food is provided) help with taking cats to the vet from time to time, help to arrange fund raising events or assist with the ‘Trap Neuter and Release’ team, catching and taking cats to be sterilised and returning them to the place they live. It’s certainly not hard work and highly enjoyable and rewarding, particularly knowing you are giving an innocent animal the chance of a better life and at the same time providing a service to the community.

By the way, we’ve been around for quite a long time (13 years) under the name of Polis Animal Rescue . At first we also tried to help with dogs, but as there is such an excellent team operating the Polis pound now, we only deal with cats and feel that our new name better reflects what we do.
