Greetings from Christine Taylor – Limassol Parish

How wonderful to welcome back members of our congregation, who have stayed away for various reasons during these recent uncertain and challenging times.

We have various strategies in place to ensure the safety of us all and we will continue to abide by the regulations.
Please bring your ‘Safe Pass’ when visiting us, this is a government regulation but is also a way to be respectful to our fellow worshippers and help to keep us all safe.

Yes, we do need to wear masks but the church is air conditioned and we have ceiling fans to help us keep cool. Hymn singing is a challenge, but we manage, and only the wafer is distributed during communion, again, to ensure safety by not drinking from the same chalice.

The usual warm welcome awaits everyone and refreshments are available, outside, after the service where we have an opportunity to catch up with friends and plan future events. You can also visit our sales table in the hall and pick up a nice gift or greeting card. Dried and tinned foods are collected each week for distribution to those in need and items of household equipment are always gratefully received by our students and other young adults trying to set up home.

We also share communion on Wednesday mornings at 9.30am. This is a spoken service and lasts about 30 minutes. It is a nice way to get together and worship mid week especially for anyone who cannot attend church on Sundays or for those of you who prefer to be in church when fewer people are there and social distancing is much easier. Do come along and join us.

Our second Tabletop Sale of the year was held on 3rd July and once more we were blessed to have so many helpers and stallholders to make the event a success. It was good to see the church grounds full of people, looking for bargains, enjoying refreshments, making a sale. Everyone seemed happy and of course the glorious Cyprus weather added to the enjoyment of us all although at times it was hard to find any shade.

The next sale will be held on 3rd September, offers of help or to book a pitch please contact Nora Ananiades 99356451.

On Sunday 4th July we were pleased to welcome Claire from Agapi to our service, she was able to tell us about the wonderful work they do to help refugees and others in need and thanked all in our parish for our continued support. We help by supplying food, blankets, children’s clothes etc. plus an annual donation from our Outreach Fund which we were delighted to present to her on the day.

On Sunday 11th July we celebrated St Lazarus Day at our church in Pissouri. The service was led by Archbishop Michael Lewis and Father Ian, followed by a dinner at Yialos Restaurant. The event was enjoyed by many friends but sadly, it was also time say farewell to Rev Rod Price and his wife Beryl. They have been here in Cyprs since 2006, Rod was chaplain at St Barnabas’ in Limassol for 3 years and both he and Beryl have continued to worship with us, more recently at St Lazarus’, and support us in many ways. Stanley Hooper summed our feelings up at the end of the service remembering all that they have both contributed to our churches and wishing them all the very best as they embark on a new chapter in their lives. Father Ian presented them with cards and gifts plus the promise of a special surprise which will be delivered to their new home in Wales. They are a wonderful couple and we send them off with our love and prayers,

At the end of July, a cage was installed just inside the church gates, in front of the hall, to collect aluminum cans. This is to support the charity CANS FOR KIDS, please save all your cans and when passing the church put them in the cage. When it is full the cans will be collected and converted to cash.

The date has been set for our Christmas Bazaar, Saturday 27th November.

As usual we hope to have lots of stalls, tasty refreshments, fun for children and entertainment for all. It is our main fundraising event of the year so if you have the time to come along on the day to help or just want to plan a fun filled family day out, check for further information on our website, Facebook page or in our weekly news sheet. Our ladies craft group are busy making all sorts of items to sell and, as usual, the Limassol Coeur de Lion, Lions Club will be there to offer their support, cook delicious breakfasts and hopefully promote the wonderful work that their organization does.
