Winds reaching as strong as gale force eight can be expected over the coming days, the met office announced on Wednesday
Extremely unsettled weather patterns, mainly strong winds, are expected from Thursday as a low-pressure system affecting the region makes its way to Cyprus.
The weather will begin to change from Wednesday night when rain is expected initially in the western areas and gradually moving across the island. Snow is expected in the higher mountainous areas.
But the main characteristic of the next two days will be very strong winds, the met office said.
Strong winds, reaching seven on the Beaufort scale are expected on Thursday and most of Friday. Inland winds are expected to register between four and six on the Beaufort scale, while in the western areas, they will reach as high as 8 Beaufort.
Snow or sleet is expected early on Thursday in the higher mountainous areas but will spread later in the day to the lower altitude areas of 1100 metres above sea level. Rains and storms are expected for the entire island.
