CYPRUS WELCOMES WALES TO PARADISE

AchordOn Friday 4th May, Cyprus-based Ladies Community Choir, ACHORD, is extremely excited to be hosting the Rhos Orpheus Male Voice Choir from Rhosllanerchrugog, North Wales when they visit Cyprus to perform alongside the ladies.

Musical Director of Achord, Julie Edwards, hails from Rhosllanerchrugog herself and so the link with the Rhos Orpheus gents was already established. When she extended an invitation to them to tour Cyprus and to share a number of concerts whilst here, the gents jumped at the chance.

Eifion Jones, the Musical Director of the Male Choir, has known Julie since the age of 9, when she sang in his Rhos Girls Choir and now, 37 years on, he is still leading choirs to success.

On Friday 4th May, Paradisos Hills Hotel in Lysos will be the beautiful venue for these two choirs to perform together for the first time. The programme will consist of both Achord and the Rhos Orpheus performing their own individual items, and will also be welcoming the CBB Brass Ensemble as their guests too. Both Choirs will then come together to perform a number of items – one of which will be the rousing Welsh hymn-tune, Calon Lan.

Julie said “I am so excited to be organising these concerts with the Rhos Orpheus guys and to be sharing the stage with them. My ladies of Achord have been singing for 3 years now and are continuing to make great progress, but having the opportunity to perform with established Choirs that have been operating for many years and who are still continuing to draw in large audiences is just something that doesn’t happen here in Cyprus very often – especially a Choir that is as established and as successful as these wonderful Welsh boys from my home village. This is going to be a super evening of varied choral items, some lilting Brass pieces and some joint numbers to round off the concert as one big mixed choir. I’m sure that it is going to be a rather emotional evening as well as a truly fabulous evening of entertainment.”
