The Paphos District First Responders currently have Charity status pending, but who are the Responders and what do they do?
Every trained and registered Responder is registered with the Emergency First Response Corporation and can Respond in Europe, The Middle East and Africa. They are trained to Europe Resuscitation Council and the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation, so all are highly trained. They are all volunteers and the service of a Responder is totally free. The Responder will either treat the patient there or if required call the Emergency Ambulance Service.
Some of the Responders are ex NHS SRN and and even a Cardio Thoracic Nurse who work at Papworth Hospital in the UK. All are trained in CPR in both Adults and Children, the use of barriers to prevent spread of blood pathagens, to recognise Heart Attack and Cardiac Arrest, Stroke and Anaphylaxis. They are trained to diagnose Agonal Breathing also. All Responders are trained to a high standard of First Aid and can deal with cuts, dislocations and fractured limbs. They work to the remit of “The Good Samaritons Laws”
The Emergency First Responders are rapidly growing, with the aid of our Patron Security Absolute Services in Tala, who monitor and take in all calls, the controller is on a 24/7 basis, the central number being, 99191056, when a call comes in the controller will alert the Responder to attend in the area the call comes in from. Our President the owner of Security Absolute Services, Jeff Greenwood set up the monitoring service for us, along with the central phone number, Security Absolute Services also has provided us with our own training room at their HQ, and has provided the Responders with funding to expand. We have Responders capable of attending your needs in areas from Timi, Anarita, Universal, Geraskipou, Tremitousa, Kallepia, Coral Bay, Peyia, and through to Polis and out lying areas of Polis, including Filousa, Peristerona, Lysos, Skarfos and Steni. We are also looking to train persons from our lying villages to be trained free if charge in CPR, the reason being CPR can be started by these trained people while the Responders arrive. Responders can usually get to a patient within 5 to 12 mins with a Difibrillator, if there is a trained CPR administer they will be alerted by the Responder they are in the way so CPR is not delayed.
So anyone who would like to learn CPR, please contact the group’s instructor Justen Karlsson EFR Instructor Reg No 454315 in Tel No 97798747.
