Extension of the second phase of the strategy of gradual de-escalation of restrictive measures
Following a proposal by the Interministerial Committee for Pandemic Management, the Council of Ministers decided today to extend the second phase of the strategy for the gradual lifting of restrictive measures until 28 February 2021 .
Despite the improvement in epidemiological indicators, at its meeting yesterday the Interministerial Committee for Pandemic Management examined the epidemiological data and took into account the fact that the second phase was activated only on Monday, February 8, and its results should be be evaluated in the coming weeks.
The suggestion of the Interministerial Committee also took into account the strong concern that prevails at the pan-European level about the new mutant strains of the virus . Given that the new strains detected so far in most EU countries, including Cyprus, cause more aggressive and rapid transmission of the virus, the relevant Ministers agreed that the de-escalation of measures should be done slowly and carefully , in order to avoid the re-burden of the epidemiological picture.
In this context, the Council of Ministers also approved the position of the Interministerial Committee for the continuation of the control program with the method of antigen rapid test of employees on a weekly basis, in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Health, with the aim of continuous monitoring of employees and prevention of outbreaks within the workplace.
