The UK government has decided to remove Cyprus from its ‘green’ travel corridor list as of this coming Sunday (from 4am UK time), due to the rise in coronavirus cases.
This means that travellers arriving to the UK from Cyprus will need to self-isolate for 14 days.
The decision was announced by Transport Secretary Grant Shapps.
The UK government adds or removes destinations from the travel corridor list every Thursday, based mainly on the number of coronavirus cases per 100,000 people on a rolling seven-day basis and the rate of increase.
Along with Cyprus, Lithuania is also added to the quarantine list.
Shapps added that no country was being added to the safe travel list this week.
Meanwhile, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) renewed its travel advice for Cyprus following the removal of the island from the British government’s safe travel corridors list.
As per the standard practice in this case, the FCDO now advises against all non-essential travel to Cyprus, based on the current assessment of Covid-19 risks in the country.
The FCDO is not advising those already travelling to Cyprus to leave at this time.
Travellers should follow the advice of the local authorities on how best to protect themselves and others, including any measures that they bring in to control the virus. They should contact their tour operator or airline if they have any questions about your return journey.
