Additional measures to curb the spread of coronavirus in all districts are expected to be announced on Friday while the partial lockdown in Paphos is to be lifted, reports said on Thursday.
The government is to announce on Friday new measures after President Nicos Anastasiades’ meeting with the advisory team on coronavirus.
The Cyprus News Agency, citing sources, reported that it is expected that additional measures will be announced in all districts except Limassol, where the lockdown will continue for another week due to the increased number of coronavirus cases. Some gradual relaxations are expected in Limassol. If there is a significant improvement, then the restrictions concerning all other districts will apply in Limassol as well.
The partial lockdown in Paphos is expected to be lifted due to the district’s good epidemiological picture.
On Friday, Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou is expected to present two packages of measures, one more stringent for the period before the holidays and the other with relaxations from December 23 until Epiphany on January 6.
Among the measures considered, is to close schools earlier and to continue the lessons through distance learning. It has not been decided whether this will concern all grades or some of them.
The nighttime curfew, the restriction on gatherings in houses and the earlier closure of restaurants are expected to remain.
In Limassol, it is expected that the measure of traffic restrictions for those leaving and those entering the province will be lifted. If there is a significant improvement, then the pan-Cypriot restrictions will apply in Limassol as well.
The final decisions will be taken after also assessing Thursday’s data and the number of cases recorded so that there are safer conclusions about the epidemiological situation in each district.
