Announcement of the Ministry of Health regarding new cases of COVID-19 disease
The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 17, 2020:
– 115 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 25 are in serious condition.
– A total of 11,518 disease detection tests have been performed, of which 3,750 by the molecular method (PCR) and 7,768 by the rapid antigen detection method (rapid test).
– 457 new cases of the disease were identified and confirmed by molecular tests (PCR), bringing the total number of cases to 16,647 . The 457 include 151 verifications from rapid tests of the previous days.
– In 240 cases from the rapid antigen test (rapid test) there was a positive result, which should be verified by the molecular method (PCR).
The current results are detailed.
A. Patients:
In total, 115 patients with COVID-19 are treated in OKYPY hospitals, of which 25 are in serious condition.
Of the 25 patients who are critical, 12 are intubated, two are treated in the Intensive Care Unit and 11 in the Intensive Care Unit.
B. Molecular examination ( PCR test )
From the 3,750 laboratory diagnoses performed today by the molecular method (PCR), 457 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified and verified, which resulted as follows:
- 173 cases from 940 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
- 2 cases of 725 samples taken in the context of passenger and repatriated control.
- 110 cases from 1,396 samples taken through private initiative.
- 18 cases from 359 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 2 cases from 120 samples received under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
- 1 case from 42 samples taken during the control of the ELDYK camp.
- 151 cases from 156 samples taken for verification by the method of molecular examination of positive results detected by the rapid antigen test method in the previous days.
In addition, the following laboratory tests were performed without detecting a case:
- From laboratory samples taken in the context of control of the Cyprus Basketball Federation and the Cyprus Volleyball Federation, 12 laboratory diagnoses were performed.
C. Test rapid antigen detection ( Antigen Rapid test ): Since the 7768 test performed by the method of rapid antigen detection (rapid test), obtained 240 positive results.
These 240 cases will be examined by the molecular PCR method, in order to be verified.
