Announcement of the Ministry of Health regarding new cases of COVID-19 disease
The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 11, 2020:
– Three people have died of COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 75.
– 110 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 17 are in serious condition.
– A total of 12,816 disease detection tests have been performed, of which 3,922 by the molecular method (PCR) and 8,894 by the rapid antigen detection method (rapid test).
– 424 new cases of the disease were identified and confirmed by molecular tests (PCR), bringing the total number of cases to 14,476 . The 424 include 122 verifications from rapid tests of the previous days.
– In 213 cases from the rapid antigen test (rapid test) there was a positive result, which should be verified by the molecular method (PCR).
The current results are detailed.
A. Deaths from COVID- 19:
The three people who died with the ultimate cause of death attributed to COVID-19 are:
– A 63-year-old man with underlying diseases, who was treated in the Intensive Care Unit of the General Hospital of Nicosia.
– A woman, aged 83, with underlying diseases, who was treated at the General Hospital of Famagusta.
– A 81-year-old man with underlying diseases, who was treated at the General Hospital of Famagusta, after being transferred from the Multipurpose Center of Kyperounta.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 75, of which:
49 men (65%), and
– 26 women (35%).
The average age of those who die from the disease is 77 years.
B. Patients:
In total, 110 patients with COVID-19 are treated in OKYPY hospitals, of which 17 are in serious condition.
Of the 17 patients who are critical, 10 are intubated, two are admitted to the Intensive Care Unit and five to the Intensive Care Unit.
C. Molecular examination ( PCR test )
From the 3,922 laboratory diagnoses performed today by the molecular method (PCR), 424 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified and verified, which resulted as follows:
- 129 cases from 883 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
- 1 case from 332 samples taken in the context of passenger and repatriated control.
- 126 cases from 1,660 samples taken through private initiative.
- 25 cases from 475 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 2 cases from 133 samples taken under the control program of students, teachers and school staff.
- 18 cases from 159 samples taken as part of the laboratory testing program carried out in nursing homes and other structures.
- 1 case from 13 samples taken under the immigrant structures control program.
- 122 cases from 128 samples taken for verification by the method of molecular examination of positive results detected by the rapid antigen test method in the previous days.
In addition, the following laboratory tests were performed without detecting a case:
- From samples taken from the inhabitants of Kato Pyrgos Tillirias, 116 laboratory tests were completed, and
- From samples taken within the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics, 23 laboratory diagnoses were performed.
D. Rapid antigen detection test ( Antigen Rapid test ): Since the 8894 test performed by the method of rapid antigen detection (rapid test), obtained 213 positive results.
These 213 cases will be examined by the molecular PCR method, in order to be verified.
