Coronavirus: 3 deaths and 292 cases announced on Wednesday

On Wednesday the Ministry of Health announced 292 cases of COVID-19 consisting of 193 from PCR Tests and 99 cases confirmed from positive Rapid Tests taken over previous days. Three deaths were also announced.

Announcement of the Ministry of Health regarding new cases of COVID-19 disease

The death of three patients with COVID-19 is announced. The ultimate cause of death is attributed to COVID-19. Specifically, these are:

– A woman, 83 years old, with underlying diseases, who was treated at the Limassol General Hospital.

– A 62-year-old man with underlying diseases, who was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.

– An 84-year-old man with a serious medical history, who was hospitalized at the General Hospital of Famagusta after being transferred from the EOKA Fighters’ Club.

Thus, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 52, 35 men (67%) and 17 women (33%), with an average age of 75 years.

In addition, the Ministry of Health informs that a total of 9,984 tests were performed today to detect COVID-19 disease.

A. Molecular Examination ( PCR test ): Of the 9,984 laboratory tests, 2,924 laboratory diagnoses were performed by the molecular method (PCR), with 193 cases of COVID-19 disease, which resulted as follows:

  • Out of 564 samples taken through the process of tracking the contacts of already confirmed cases, 88 cases were identified.
  • Of the 1,142 samples taken through private initiative, 59 cases were identified.
  • Out of 344 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 27 cases were identified.
  • From 249 samples taken under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics, 2 cases were identified.
  • From 1 sample taken in Larnaca District in the context of control of employees who fall under the exemptions for movement to and from the Provinces of Limassol and Paphos, 1 case was identified.
  • Out of 144 samples taken under the control program of students, teachers and school staff, 4 cases were identified.
  • Out of 16 samples taken under the immigration structure control program, 12 cases were identified.



In addition, the following laboratory tests were performed without detecting a case:

  • From samples taken during the control of passengers and repatriates, 317 laboratory tests were performed,
  • From samples taken from the inhabitants of Kato Pyrgos Tillirias, 61 laboratory diagnoses were completed, and
  • From samples taken as part of the laboratory testing program carried out in nursing homes and other structures, 86 laboratory tests were performed.

B. Rapid antigen detection test ( Antigen Rapid test ): Of the 9,984 tests, 6,060 were performed by the method of rapid antigen detection (rapid test), with 108 positive results.

In addition, the positive result was verified by the molecular test method for 99 samples of positive results detected by the rapid antigen test method in the previous days. An additional four positive results from rapid tests were not verified by the molecular method. Positive rapid antigen detection tests confirmed by PCR are included in the total number of cases below.

Therefore, based on the data so far, the total number of cases is 11,175.

C. Patients:

In total, 124 COVID-19 patients are treated in OKYPY hospitals.
