Announcement of the Ministry of Health regarding new cases of COVID-19 disease
The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 5, 2020:
– Two people have died of COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 59.
– 119 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 16 are in critical condition.
– A total of 9,744 disease detection tests have been performed, of which 4,007 by the molecular method (PCR) and 5,737 by the rapid antigen detection method (rapid test).
– 369 new cases of the disease were identified and confirmed by molecular tests (PCR), bringing the total number of cases to 12,181 . The 369 include 116 verifications from rapid tests of the previous days.
– In 181 cases from the rapid antigen test (rapid test) there was a positive result which should be verified by the molecular method (PCR).

A. Deaths from COVID- 19:
The two people who died with the ultimate cause of death attributed to COVID-19 are:
– A man, 81 years old, with underlying diseases, who was treated at the General Hospital of Famagusta.
– A woman, 82 years old, with underlying diseases, who was treated at the Limassol General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 59, of which:
38 men (64%), and
– 21 women (36%).
The average age of those who die from the disease is 76 years.
