Announcement of the Ministry of Health regarding new cases of COVID-19 disease
The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 6, 2020:
– Two people have died of COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 61.
– 121 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 18 are in critical condition.
– A total of 7,918 disease detection tests have been performed, of which 2,090 by the molecular method (PCR) and 5,828 by the rapid antigen detection method (rapid test).
– 270 new cases of the disease were identified and confirmed by molecular tests (PCR), bringing the total number of cases to 12,451 . The 270 include 69 verifications from rapid tests of the previous days.
– In 202 cases from the rapid antigen test (rapid test) there was a positive result, which should be verified by the molecular method (PCR).
The current results are detailed.
A. Deaths from COVID- 19:
The two people who died with the ultimate cause of death attributed to COVID-19 are:
– A 72-year-old man with underlying diseases, who was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of the General Hospital of Nicosia.
– A woman, 86 years old, with underlying diseases, who was treated at the General Hospital of Famagusta after being transferred from the Multipurpose Center of Peristerona.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 61, of which:
39 men (64%), and
– 22 women (36%).
The average age of those who die from the disease is 76 years.
B. Patients:
In total, 121 patients with COVID-19 are treated in OKYPY hospitals, of which 18 are in critical condition.
Of the 18 patients who are critical, 10 are intubated, two are admitted to the Intensive Care Unit and 6 to the Intensive Care Unit.
C. Molecular examination ( PCR test )
From the 2,090 laboratory diagnoses performed today by the molecular method (PCR), 270 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified and verified, which resulted as follows:
- 96 cases from 522 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
- 84 cases from 931 samples taken through private initiative.
- 16 cases from 213 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 2 cases from 96 samples taken under the control program of students, teachers and school staff.
- 3 cases from 253 samples received under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
- 69 cases from 75 samples taken for verification by the method of molecular examination of positive results detected by the rapid antigen test method in the previous days.
D. Rapid antigen detection test ( Antigen Rapid test ): Since the 5828 test performed by the method of rapid antigen detection (rapid test), obtained 202 positive results.
These 202 cases will be examined by the molecular PCR method, in order to be verified.
