Announcement of the Ministry of Health regarding new cases of COVID-19 disease
The Ministry of Health informs that, according to information received today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories, out of a total of 4,143 laboratory diagnoses, 198 new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified.
In detail, the current cases emerged as follows:
- Out of 642 samples taken through the process of tracking the contacts of already confirmed cases, 78 cases were identified.
- Of the 2,399 samples taken through private initiative, 87 cases were identified.
- From 220 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 14 cases were identified.
- Out of 538 samples taken during the passenger and repatriated control, 7 cases were identified.
- Out of 256 samples taken under the program of referrals by Personal Doctors and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics, 12 cases were identified.
In addition, the laboratory testing of samples from the following programs was completed, without the detection of cases:
- From samples taken under the control program of students, teachers and school staff, 64 laboratory tests were completed, and
- From samples taken in the context of sampling carried out by the KOP in Associations participating in its events, 24 laboratory tests were completed.
Therefore, based on the data so far, the total number of cases is 6,296.
In addition, the Famagusta General Hospital treats 59 people positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, four of whom are in the Intensive Care Unit. In addition, the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital treats a total of seven patients, one of whom is out of ventilator. Another ten people are being treated in a COVID-19 ward at the Nicosia General Hospital.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Ministry of Health made the following announcement relating to the deaths of patients with COVID-19
The Ministry of Health announces the death of three patients with COVID-19, who were treated at the General Hospital of Famagusta. Specifically, these are:
- An 86-year-old woman, with underlying diseases, who was transported to the reference hospital by Socrates Melathron Nursing. The ultimate cause of death is attributed to COVID-19.
- 80-year-old woman with underlying diseases. The ultimate cause of death is attributed to COVID-19.
- A 62-year-old man with underlying diseases. The ultimate cause of death is attributed to pulmonary embolism.
According to the data, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 disease is 29, 18 men and 11 women, with an average age of 74 years.
To date, 38 deaths of people infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus have been reported in Cyprus, of which 76% (29 people) are due to COVID-19 and 24% (9 people) to other causes of death.
