Coronavirus: 198 new cases and 1 Death Announced on Saturday

Announcement of the Ministry of Health regarding new cases of COVID-19 disease

The death of a female patient with COVID-19, aged 61, with underlying diseases, who was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital, is announced. The ultimate cause of death is attributed to COVID-19. The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 is 39, 24 men and 15 women, with an average age of 74 years.

In addition, the Ministry of Health informs that, according to information received today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories, from a total of 4,157 laboratory diagnoses, 198 new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified.

In detail, the current cases emerged as follows:

  • Out of 833 samples taken through the process of tracking the contacts of already confirmed cases, 84 cases were identified.
  • Out of 1,807 samples taken through private initiative, 82 cases were identified.
  • From 390 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 6 cases were identified.
  • From 263 samples taken under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics, 20 cases were identified.
  • Out of 105 samples taken under the control program of students, teachers and school staff, 1 case was identified.
  • Out of 143 samples taken as part of the sampling carried out by the KOP in Associations participating in its events, 1 case was identified.
  • Out of 607 samples taken during the passenger and repatriated control, 4 cases were identified.



In addition, the laboratory test of 9 samples taken under the immigrant structures control program was completed, without detecting cases.

Therefore, based on the data so far, the total number of cases is 7,051.

In addition, the Famagusta General Hospital treats 47 people positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, five of whom are in the Intensive Care Unit. In addition, the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital treats a total of eight patients, two of whom are out of ventilator. Another nine people are being treated in a COVID-19 ward at Nicosia General Hospital.
