Announcement of the Ministry of Health regarding new cases of COVID-19 disease
In addition to the three deaths reported earlier today, the death of another 89-year-old COVID-19 male patient with serious underlying illness, who was being treated at Famagusta General Hospital, has been announced. The ultimate cause of death is attributed to COVID-19. The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 is 33, 20 men (60%) and 13 women (40%), with an average age of 75 years.
In addition, the Ministry of Health informs that, according to information received today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories, out of a total of 3,291 laboratory diagnoses, 165 new cases of COVID-19 were identified.
In detail, the current cases emerged as follows:
- Out of 608 samples taken through the process of tracking the contacts of already confirmed cases, 59 cases were identified.
- Out of 1,540 samples taken through private initiative, 68 cases were identified.
- From 254 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 16 cases were identified.
- Out of 414 samples taken as part of the passenger and repatriated control, 5 cases were identified.
- Out of 243 samples taken under the program of referrals by Personal Doctors and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics, 15 cases were identified.
- From 148 samples taken under the control program of students, teachers and school staff, 2 cases were identified.
In addition, the laboratory testing of samples from the following programs was completed, without the detection of cases:
- Of the 8 samples taken under the immigrant structures control program, 47 laboratory diagnoses were performed,
- From samples taken in the context of sampling carried out by the KOP in Associations participating in its events, 37 laboratory tests were completed.
Therefore, based on the data so far, the total number of cases is 6,461.
In addition, the Famagusta General Hospital treats 57 people positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, six of whom are in the Intensive Care Unit. In addition, the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital treats a total of six patients, two of whom are out of ventilator. Another ten people are being treated in a COVID-19 ward at the Nicosia General Hospital.
