“Carmel” severe weather system to hit Cyprus late on Saturday

A severe weather system dubbed “Carmel” will hit Cyprus starting late on Saturday and reaching its peak on Sunday, according to the Mediterranean island’s Meteorological Service.

The front – coming from the Greek island of Rhodes – will bring heavy rainstorms and snowfall as well as gale-force winds which are to reach 9 Beaufort.

An orange warning calling on citizens to be very careful and avoid unnecessary travel is on the cards, head of the Service Kleanthis Nicolaides told Philenews.

The name, which was given in conjunction with the Israeli meteorological service, refers to the city which is mentioned in the Bible’s Book of Samuel and also in Joshua.
