November 1st and our Autumn Season Boules competition held at Tala Boules Club. We started the day at 10.00 am in typical Cyprus sun. Nineteen pairs ready to compete for the winners trophies, including the winners of our Spring competition Graham Clark and Alan Boswell. We also welcomed five pairs playing for the first time. The initial qualifying round was a round robin, 4 leagues of 5 pairs (One league did include a bye), the winning pair from each league would progress through to the semi-final, the remaining players would compete for the Plate competition on a knock out basis. As we completed the round robin stage everyone broke for lunch, Souvlaki in the Hazeli Lounge bar (Included as part of the entry fee). We also drew the raffle, which once again I thank Anne for her support and organisation. Unfortunately at this stage we started to feel small drops of water but moved back to the lanes and progressed with the Plate competition. The rain was spasmodic and fairly light as we moved through the rounds of the Plate competition.
As we confirmed our semi finalists the rain started to get a bit heavier but everyone continued and we played both semi-finals at the same time, taking advantage of the five lanes available. Eventually we had our finalists for both competitions. Sadly the rain continued but we persevered, ensuring all the electrical appliances. (P.A. etc were out of the way!). In the final of the Plate Alan Reid & Yvonne Halleron played Paul & Jackie Gibbons. In the November comp Final Staurt Harris & Martin Hadfield were determined to wrestle the title away from defending champions Graham Clark & Alan Boswell. Both finals were exciting, the rain making conditions a bit more challenging but eventually Paul & Jackie were victorious in the Plate competition, and Graham & Alan defended their title.
Everyone was now ready to retire to the bar for refreshment and the awarding of the trophies.
I would like to thank everyone who took part on the day and those who came along and supported. Unfortunately I could not manage the weather, but the following day was horrendous when the storms hit! A big thank you to our sponsors Wetsuit and Rinos and the team from Hazeli Lounge Bar. Hopefully we will be back in the early Spring. In total we raised €1,121.20
