The Mitsuoka Motor Company is unlikely to be familiar to you. So you will probably be surprised to learn that they are the 10th largest car manufacturer in Japan, and over the past 40 years they have sold over 200,000 retro styled saloon and sports cars. PCVC`s Classic for February, is one such saloon, a 1994 Mitsuoka Viewt.
The Viewt, which has been in production since 1993, is styled on that British classic from the 1960s, the Jaguar Mk II. However, under the attractive, hand crafted bodywork beats the heart of a humble Nissan March/Micra. Whilst the chassis and running gear may come from the ultra reliable, modern Nissan the interior is luxurious with the leather seating and hardwood trim that befits a classic Jaguar. When launched, in 1993, the Viewt had a sale price of £23,000 which was equal to the price of a BMW Series 3.
Our featured Classic has been owned by Montag Girmes family for over 10 years and for the majority of this time was in regular use on the roads around Paphos. The car has just undergone a complete re-spray, restoring the Vissino (sour cherry red) paintwork to its original condition. The car is powered by an economical 1.3 litre petrol engine with a 4 speed automatic gearbox and features not only power assisted steering but also air conditioning. So, if you fancy driving a Classic car with old English style that is totally reliable, and, has “all mod cons”, perhaps you should consider a Mitsuoka Viewt.
