Happy New Year From PISC

The exceptionally good weather during the month provided superb sailing at Agios Georgios for members of Paphos International Sailing Club (PISC). As many as 16 boats took to the sea every Thursday and Saturday. There were two sailing competitions: a quarterly competition which is ongoing and a monthly competition. The ‘Letymbou Taverna Monthly Series’ was won by Annette Garcia with sail number 007 in her Laser dinghy aptly named ‘Shaken Not Stirred’. The ‘Tea for Two Monthly Series’ is now underway.

In the Autumn Series it’s Tony Edwards leading the pack in his Laser ‘Bomba’.

Towards the end of the year it was time to have our awards presentation evening.

A time to celebrate the achievements of our members and give recognition to those who have gone the extra mile for their club.

The ‘Aphrodite Trophy’ (Female sailor) was award to Annette Garcia who has now got to grips with her Laser & improving week on week.

Alessandro David took the ‘Monthly Series Shield’ after winning the monthly series twice during the year.

The ‘Training Trophy’ was awarded to the whole of the training team, Peter Wade, David Brown, Paul Hutton-Ashkenny, Brian Layng, Tony Edwards & Lesley Anderson . The training team in 2024 have managed to successfully guide thirty people through the CySaF Learn to Sail course.

The ‘Rookie Sailor Of The Year ‘was awarded to Tatiana Antipova for her sheer determination to master the art of solo sailing after attending the learn to sail course.

‘Dinghy Sailor Of The Year’ was Tony ‘Bomba’ Edwards who has had an exceptional year. Tony has won the Quarterly Series twice & been second twice, has won the Monthly Series once & also took part in both regattas.

Lynne Offord won the ‘Onshore Trophy’ for outstanding work on shore at our Clubhouse.

The ‘Ken Stewart Memorial Trophy’ for power boats was presented jointly to John Huggett & Ian Cosham not only for coxing our patrol boats & keeping them serviceable but also for helping members obtain their High Speed Small Boat Operators Licences.’

Slav ‘Stas’ Kovalysher was awarded the ‘Youth Trophy’ for his continued development sailing his Laser.

The most prestigious award of the evening, the ‘Commodore’s Shield’, went to Susie Marshall for her outstanding contribution to the club.

PISC is an extremely friendly club and new members are encouraged to take part in a full range of activities on or off the water and of course, anyone wishing to learn to sail is given full support and training. Members are also welcome to enjoy the hospitality at our impressive clubhouse.
