West Coast Runners Cyprus – West Coast Walkers Cyprus – September 2024

There are few races held in the summer months, but we run all year round and still have a good turnout for our training runs. We particularly enjoy meeting runners who are holidaying in Cyprus who are always very welcome to run with us while they are here. As a running club we always make sure to hydrate well, before, during and after runs. We tend to run shorter distances during the summer months when the temperatures and humidity are high.

However, there are still some events held during the summer months and on Sunday 4 August, several members of West Coast Runners took part in the annual Kathikas Fun Walk, which was the 15th year for this walk. The walk starts from Kathikas Church Square, at a very early start time of 6am, and finishes at Agios Georgios. There will be a full report on this event next month including photographs.

Club Handicap.
The monthly handicap continues and despite the heat, there were some excellent results. It’s getting very competitive now, and the August handicap should prove interesting with some very close overall points up to now.

West Coast Runners on Tour.
During Christine’s stay in Doncaster recently, she was invited by her good friend Eva and running club member to participate in the Sandall Park, Parkrun which takes place every Saturday at 9am. Those of you who are not aware parkruns are organized across the world. The course is 5K in distance, they are fun, free to enter, organized by volunteers for the benefit of everyone. Having never competed in a Parkrun, Christine was pleased to accept Eva’s invitation.

Christine stated it was a fine summer Saturday morning (although it rained most of Christine’s time in the Uk! ) and the temperature was ideal for running. The course was run on a mixture of grass and tarmac paths. The event was well organized and there were plenty of Marshals at key sections of the course. They both successfully completed the run and Christine fully enjoyed the experience. She says she would certainly do a Parkrun again if the opportunity arose. Well done Eva and Christine.

Another one of our members, Karen, gave us a report on the Southend Parkrun which was held on 22 June. Karen was really pleased with her result, having achieved a PB of 32.35, knocking 2 minutes and 15 seconds of her previous time of 34.50. Well done to Karen.

And finally, Vivienne, one of our club members, ran 11K, while holidaying in Gloucester, she obviously enjoyed it, but stated it was a cold, chilly morning.

C25K
We will continue to organize the ever popular C25K plan, and Di is looking to start the next one late September. If you are interested in joining the plan, then please contact Di, Course Leader, she will take your contact details and let you have the definitive start date and answer questions regarding the plan. Di’s mobile is 97761015.

West Coast Walkers

The walking Group meet on Monday mornings all through the year and during the summer at earlier times due to the weather conditions. The walks are of various lengths and at different locations in and around Paphos, and sometimes to places that they have never seen before, which makes it a great group to be part of. If you are interested in joining our walkers, please see the West Coast Walkers Facebook page for meeting points and start time. You will also see the great photographs of all our walks.
